ChopValue Indonesia Celebrates Grand Opening of Flagship Microfactory in Bali.
BALI, INDONESIA — 10 September 2023 — ChopValue Indonesia is thrilled to celebrate the grand opening of its Flagship Microfactory in the heart of Bali, the first location in Indonesia. This marks a significant milestone for ChopValue Indonesia as it embarks on an ambitious commitment to establish 25 Microfactory locations across the country that just recently announced a ‘garbage emergency.’
ChopValue is pioneering sustainable material innovation, design, and manufacturing of industry-leading products from discarded waste. As a highly scalable circular manufacturing model, ChopValue's local-to-global approach transforms discarded chopsticks into high-quality, market-ready end products for various applications.
The new ChopValue Bali Flagship location will help with the company's vision to tackle Indonesia's estimated 1 billion chopsticks that are being discarded yearly. To date, the local team has collected 1.2 million chopsticks from 170 valued community partners in Bali alone.
"I am so excited to bring this concept to Indonesia as part of my larger commitment to finding sustainable solutions to help us all live more sustainably," said Orin Hardy, Director of ChopValue Indonesia. "This Microfactory is the first of many, and we hope it can help to promote a thriving creative economy in Indonesia where every product has a sustainable impact. Waste is a serious issue in Bali, and we want to do our part to limit what ends up in the landfill by redefining how we look at waste as a wasted resource, especially if it is made of something valuable like bamboo."
Orin Hardy decided to bring ChopValue to Indonesia as part of his family's larger commitment to sustainability, known globally for being pioneers in bamboo design, architecture and construction. The simplicity of ChopValue's mission inspired Hardy. He felt it would be a great addition to the family’s existing network of environmentally minded enterprises in Bali. The family initiatives include the Green School Bali, the Green Village Bali, IBUKU, Bamboo U, Bambu Indah, Bamboo Pure, the bamboo construction company, and the bamboo treatment facility where the Flagship Microfactory is located.
The new Microfactory is part of ChopValue's network to create a distributed manufacturing model that builds a local, circular industry for a global impact. Instead of a large centralized model, in the Microfactory concept, goods are produced close to where the chopsticks are disposed of in a small but efficient facility, helping to tackle environmental issues and support the local community.
“Leveraging the deep bamboo legacy of Orin’s family adds unparalleled experience and commitment towards our mission of turning ‘waste’ to ‘resource’ and engages us to broaden our horizons in developing our circular solutions,” expressed Felix Böck, CEO and Founder of ChopValue. “We are excited to actively support ChopValue Indonesia’s transformative influence in their communities across the country.”
Amidst ChopValue Bali's grand opening, the team will conduct a soft launch of ChopValue's first Nanofactory in Ubud, Bali on September 11, 2023. This unique concept store will introduce visitors to ChopValue's circular economy concept while shopping handcrafted products made in the Microfactory close by. Each customer will have the option to personalize their purchases with the Nanofactory's on-site laser engraver.
